5 Reasons Why You Should Visit Scarborough beach (Perths Best Beach)

Scarborough Beach

If you’re visiting Perth for the first time then you won’t want to miss Scarborough Beach. A lot is happening here including markets, sports competitions, dancing you name it and Scarborough Beach probably has it(yes it has banana and Nutella crepes).

Located in the city of Stirling by the Indian Ocean with crystal clear water and white sand, a vibrant atmosphere, many consider Scarborough Beach to be Perth’s best beach.

Perth has been my home for the last 5 years. I’m a sun chaser who loves the beach and a relaxed vibe. Scarborough has become the most sought-after destination to live in Perth amongst the younger crowd and here are some reasons why.

1. The Uniqueness of Scarborough Beach

Scarborough Beach is a hub of activity that offers a range of attractions that set it apart from other beaches in the area like an action-packed amphitheatre, skate park, beautiful beach, yoga classes, markets and much more. Whether you’re a surfer, sunbather, or market enthusiast, there’s something for you at Scarborough Beach.

2. Scarborough Beach for Surfers

Surfers flock to Scarborough Beach year-round, thanks to its consistent swells and great waves. From April to June, surfers can catch some of the best waves of the year.

The beach, just 15 km from Perth city centre, offers stunning ocean views, local cafes, and picnic tables, making it an ideal spot to after a day of riding the waves.

3. Sunbathing at Scarborough Beach

If you prefer soaking up the sun, then Scarborough Beach is best visited in the morning to avoid the wind that usually blows in during the afternoon. You can also check the windy app to see if it’s blowing a gale.

For those who’ve got good eyesight, you’ll be able to see Rottnest Island(a must-do trip in Perth)in the distance.

Visitors can relax, enjoy the sunset, and sunbathe on the white sand. There are plenty of grassy areas where you can find picnic tables, free BBQs, wifi, accommodation, and sunset views. It’s the perfect place for a beach day with friends or family.

4. Scarborough Beach Skate Park

Scarborough Beach is a popular destination for skateboarding.

The park has a three-tier skate park which is one of the largest and most diverse skate parks in the country. It is known as the Snake Pit and attracts many young West Australians who love to try out new skateboarding moves.

5. Exploring the Thursday and Saturday Sunset Markets

When you’re not hitting the surf or soaking up the sun, make sure to explore the Thursday and Saturday Sunset Markets at Scarborough Beach.

These markets offer an eclectic mix of local businesses, food, DJs and entertainment, creating a vibrant, lively atmosphere that attracts visitors of all ages.

What to Expect at the Markets

I’d say most people are heading to the markets to try the delicious food. From Indian to Mexican, paella to fried chicken and delicious desserts to try like fried ice cream and banana with Nutella crepes(smiley face).

You can also expect a diverse range of products, including arts, crafts, clothing, and handmade items. They play live music from the amphitheatre and also around the markets you’ll find other live musicians or DJs.

Finding parking can be a struggle as the sunset markets in Scarborough as they are really popular. Make sure you get there early to allow time for parking, grabbing some food and drinks then finding a nice spot to sit before the sun puts on a show.
