Gannet Rocks Framed Wall Art — Dunsborough, Western Australia

Off Dunsborough the granite is scattered rather than solid — a field of pale boulders sitting in shallow water with the open blue of Geographe Bay beyond and a boat or two working the horizon. It is a landscape you only understand from the air, and one of the reasons this stretch is such a well-loved snorkelling and diving ground.

Geographe Bay's protected northern aspect is what makes this image possible. Sheltered from the prevailing south-westerly, the water here goes glass-flat on the right morning and stays clear enough to read granite, weed and sand right through the surface — conditions the exposed Indian Ocean coast a few kilometres away almost never offers.

Personally shot by Australian aerial photographer Matthew Philip on a DJI Mavic 4 Pro. This image lives entirely on being able to see through the water to the rock and sand below, which is why it was shot on a dead-still morning and why the drone's 100MP Hasselblad camera matters so much — every submerged boulder edge stays defined rather than dissolving into blue.

Off Dunsborough the granite does not come in one big lump — it is scattered, a whole field of pale boulders sitting in shallow water with open Geographe Bay stretching out behind and the odd boat working the horizon.

You cannot see this arrangement from the beach. From the water you get glimpses of it with a snorkel on. From the air it lays itself out like a map, and that is the only reason this frame exists.

Everything here depends on seeing through the water, so I waited for a dead-still morning — no wind chop, no surface glare — and let the 100MP Hasselblad on the Mavic 4 Pro do the rest.
