The houses at Eagle Bay don't sit on the beach — they sit back in the peppermint bush above it, half hidden in the trees, which is exactly why this stretch of coast still feels the way it did thirty years ago. This aerial photograph takes in all of it: the beach, the granite and reef showing dark through the shallows, and the holiday houses tucked into the canopy behind.

Eagle Bay sits on the sheltered northern face of Cape Naturaliste, ten minutes from Dunsborough and a short run from Meelup Regional Park. Because it looks north into Geographe Bay rather than west into the Indian Ocean, the water here stays glassy long after the open coast has blown out — the reason this has been WA's most quietly coveted summer address for generations.

What I love about Eagle Bay is what isn't here. No high-rise, no esplanade, no strip of shops. The houses sit back in the peppermint bush above the sand, half swallowed by the trees, and from the air you can barely pick them out.

I framed this one to take in the whole arrangement — the beach, the rock and reef sitting dark under the shallows, and the roofs in the canopy behind. It only works because the bay faces north into Geographe Bay, so the water was flat enough to read straight through to the bottom.

The 100MP Hasselblad camera on the Mavic 4 Pro earns its money in a frame like this, holding the reef detail underwater and the bush texture on land in the same shot.
