The things you can do with drones these days is incredible! Drone technology has progressed a long way over the last few years and there’s many affordable options out there. It can be daunting choosing your first drone and that’s why I’ve put together this article to give you the key info.
I have created a list of the top 5 beginner drones with their strengths and weakness. At the bottom you will find a chart comparing all the drones key features. The second price I have included for each drone is for the drone plus the fly more kit which I talk more about at the end.

The DJI Mini 3 is a pocket-sized powerhouse that weighs only 249 grams making it one of the best drones for travelling with. With its 4K camera and 12MP resolution, you can capture stunning aerial imagery with remarkable detail. Something unique about the mini 3 is it’s ability to turn the gimbal to shoot in portrait mode which is useful for when shooting for social media apps like Instagram story, TikTok and YouTube shorts as it means you don’t have to waste your time cropping the footage and losing quality. This is the best drone if you’re on a tight budget.

The DJI Mini 3 Pro takes the second spot on our list with its enhanced features. The main differences with mini 3 pro are it’s 48MP camera, 4k 60fps video, obstacle avoidance from all angles which makes a big difference to safety, it also has better quality transmission range and some advanced features like mastershots and Hyperlapse. Hyperlapse can create stunning videos. I think it’s well worth spending the bit extra for these features if you’re serious about droning.

The DJI Mini 2 SE combines affordability and excellence, making it an ideal choice for beginners. With a 2.7K camera and 12MP resolution, it still captures great aerial footage. Despite its budget-friendly price, it doesn’t compromise on performance and stability. I would only choose this drone if you are on a very tight budget. The mini 3 offers a lot more for just a bit extra.

The DJI Air 2S brings professional-grade performance to the realm of beginner drones. With its 5.4K camera and 20MP resolution, it offers exceptional image quality. This is a great drone but in my opinion it’s not worth the extra money compared to the mini 3.

The DJI Mavic 3 Classic is a flagship drone that combines power, versatility, and cutting-edge technology. The 20MP hassleblad camera is what sets this drone apart from the rest. The Mavic 3 series are the best on the market for performance and quality but they do come with a much higher price tag. If you’re happy to spend the money then I would go for any of the Mavic 3 drones. There are now 4 types of Mavic 3 drones to choose from. The Mavic 3 classic is the cheapest and the Mavic 3 Pro is the latest addition.
